Nobel Prize in Literature 2022, the book is already causing a lot of ink to flow.

The press release from the very prestigious Swedish Academy has fallen! The Nobel Prize in Literature 2022 is awarded to the French author Annie Ernaux, “for the courage and clinical acuity with which she uncovers the roots, estrangements and collective restraints of personal memory”.

Annie Ernaux is the seventeenth woman to be awarded the Nobel Prize and the first French woman to receive the most prestigious distinction in literature. The author, a professor of literature, has written some twenty stories in which she addresses the theme of memory. She sifts through the evolution of society, bears witness to the condition of social classes and especially those of women and their demands from the post-war period to the present day.

Her latest book, “Le jeune homme” (The Young Man), published at the beginning of May by Gallimard, relates a romance between a 54-year-old woman and a young man 30 years her junior. When she evokes the relationship with the young man, she returns to the different stages of her life, a work of introspection, a return to the sources to relive her past. The author indicates that through this story, she was able to create a transfer of classes, she writes: “With my husband, once, I felt a daughter of the people, with him, this time, I was a bourgeoise.”

This book is an intense summary of all her favorite subjects and a beautiful message of freedom for women.
