Polka dots take power

by Kseniia Miasnikova

Graphic, retro, couture or sexy… polka dots are making a name for themselves as the star pattern of the season

They’re swirling around the catwalks, punctuating silhouettes with freshness, flirting between retro and ultra-contemporary: polka dots are making a comeback. Graphic, playful or elegant, they are one of the season’s key patterns. Mini or maxi, on a pastel or deep black background, all-over or in subtle touches… they’re everywhere, from ready-to-wear to accessories and lingerie. Here’s an overview of this stylish trend

At Valentino, polka dots have become a key element of the wardrobe. Oversized jackets, long gloves and elegant shoes all play the ultra-stylish monochrome card. The Italian fashion house is exploring the cool couture version of polka dots: fullness, femininity and a guaranteed romantic attitude.

Always daring, Moschino created a dress with oversized polka dots and a preppy shirt and tie. Here, the motif is facetious, almost cartoonish, and evokes a mischievous spirit, right in the brand’s DNA.

The New York fashion house embraces the pattern with classic elegance. Shirts, tops, strapless dresses or structured skirts… polka dots become a timeless element, revisited in impeccable cuts for an effortlessly chic effect.

The top/slip duo spotted on the Acne Studios catwalks is a perfect illustration of an avant-garde interpretation of polka dots. Paired with a midi skirt and a perfecto, the pattern adopts a sharp, urban style, perfect for those who like to mix codes with audacity.

At Vaillant, polka dots take on a material dimension. On an ostrich feather coat, they add texture and volume; on jeans embroidered with lace polka dots, they become almost tactile, playing with light and contrast. An arty, confident approach.

The trend extends to the smallest details. Kate Spade’s polka-dot clutch is as sparkling as it is elegant, the perfect way to liven up a monochrome outfit. Nina Ricci, meanwhile, is going for retro charm with a pair of delicate polka-dot glasses, accompanied by an ultra-chic oversized bow for a theatrical look. And for those who like refined discretion, navy blue ballerinas with polka dots from Pretty Ballerinas add an irresistible preppy touch to everyday wear. Further proof that polka dots are anything but an accessory!
