For the first time in Switzerland, a major museum retrospective will be dedicated to Yayoi Kusama, a global icon of contemporary art. An invitation to enter the infinite universe of a visionary artist who, for over seven decades, has blurred the boundaries between art and obsession, color and vertigo, mirror and poetry.
A cult artist with hypnotic polka dots
Born in 1929 in the city of Nagano, Japan, Yayoi Kusama is now one of the most celebrated artists in the world. Known for her immersive installations, Infinity Mirror Rooms, polka-dotted sculptures and psychedelic aesthetic, Kusama creates a total art form that merges painting, performance, poetry, fashion and spatial experience.
At the Fondation Beyeler, visitors will discover a unique journey combining iconic works and rare pieces never before seen in Europe. The exhibition opens with her creations from the 1950s—already marked by her obsession with patterns—and unfolds all the way to her most recent works.

A new Infinity Mirror Room to discover
Exclusively for the exhibition, Yayoi Kusama has conceived a new Infinity Room. These environments made of mirrors, light, and repetition immerse visitors in a unique sensory experience—somewhere between magic and meditation. This new space promises a spectacular immersive journey, at the crossroads of lucid dreaming and conceptual installation.
A multifaceted and resolutely contemporary body of work
Beyond the installations, the exhibition explores Kusama’s multifaceted practice: drawings, paintings, collages, performances, happenings, photography, fashion, and poetry. Each medium becomes an outlet for her obsessions—a way to make the invisible visible. Kusama transforms the intimate into the universal, questioning our relationship to the body, space, and identity.
