The 2023 Salon du Design

by Redaction NOW Village

Inaugurated in 2017, Le Salon du Design returns on the weekend of October 28 and 29 for its fifth edition at the Pavillon Sicli in Geneva.

Desirable furniture from the 1900s to the 1990s, lamps and objects from the 20th century have made their way into the finest interiors of the 21st century. In Geneva, a fair is dedicated to them: the Salon du Design.

Every autumn, the Geneva show brings together some thirty professional dealers from Switzerland and Europe under the concrete domes of the Pavillon Sicli. Over the course of a weekend, this emblematic building of Geneva’s architectural heritage is transformed into a fabulous market for vintage furniture, attended by enthusiasts, decorators and collectors, some of whom have come from far and wide.

On October 28 and 29, 2023, visitors will be able to browse 31 stands from Switzerland, France, Belgium and Spain, in search of that rare gem. One of Europe’s finest fairs, it owes its international renown to the quality of its exhibitors. At this fifth edition, selected antique dealers will unveil the exceptional pieces of historic design and iconic models they have in store for the fair’s public.

Formes Utiles from Lyon will present furniture by French architects, including Charlotte Perriand’s “Meribel” chairs. Etoz, from Bern, will showcase original creations from the Swiss and Italian postmodern movements. Artichoke Genève will showcase a rare “Samo” table by Carlo Scarpa (1970). 1950s creations by, for example, Italy’s Gianfranco Frattini at Reactuel, Willy Guhl at CHgallery, and Denmark’s Hans Wegner at Patinamøbel. Upstairs, Charles & Ray Eames will be the subject of a new exhibition organized by Lausanne showroom Uniquement Vôtre in collaboration with Vitra.

A number of new galleries will be joining this anniversary edition: Grand Pré in Poitiers, MidMod20c in Basel, and Can Sab in Menorca and Megève. Scandinavian period armchairs, American midcentury, Italian Novecento lamps, Gute Form, rustic or bohemian nuggets – the vintage design festival promises a jam-packed program you won’t want to miss!
